There are 2 updates that are slated as coming early in 2010 according to the FB Developer Roadmap. They may not seem major, but they could be. No longer will your app be able to depend on users having your app on a user’s left narrow box. App’s will now be confined even further and will only be accessible via a tab or more than likely still on the boxes tab.
On the tabbed application front another change may adversely effect application builders that have built their apps to support a wide interface in the tabs. Currently you were able to take advantage of a generous 760 pixels, but you will have to scale that back to only 520. This is assumption being that this is being done to support the persistence of the left user bar throughout a user’s profile.
“Facebook will deprecate profile boxes in late 2009/early 2010. To integrate into the profile, use application tabs. For more information, please read the Developer Roadmap. ”
“Important: In late 2009/early 2010, application tabs will be 520 pixels wide. For more information, please read the Developer Roadmap.”
